Happy First Birthday Hannah!

Today is Hannah's actual birthday. She is still not feeling very well - but that won't stop her from smiling for the camera!

another celebration

On Sunday, we had Hannah's birthday party in Seattle. Hannah started off her party by... sleeping.

When all the guests had eaten, I woke her up to begin the birthday stuff. She had her own cake, opened gifts, and gave lots of hugs - but NO smiles! She didn't want to put her hands directly in the cake and begged for a fork. Once I gave her the fork, she ate her cake with a little mess :)

the destiny of knowledge

On Saturday, Hannah had her big Traditional Korean Birthday bash down in Portland. The first birthday is a very big deal in Korean culture. She wore her traditional Korean dress (and was such a good sport considering she felt terrible and the dress was very scratchy)! A big part of Tol is the setting of the table. The first thing she grabbed off the table was a pencil. A pencil represents knowledge. Yay! Hannah is going to be smart! Next she grabbed a small bag filled with money - wealth! Great job Hannah! A destiny of wealth and knowledge! There was A LOT of food to share and many guests that dropped by to eat and bestow gifts (mostly money) to Hannah.
After *many* pictures and a nap, we were off to the Bo Kwan Sah Buddist Temple. There we celebrated again with lots of food, guests, pictures, and gifts! Thanks, thanks, thanks! Thanks to everyone to helped - the party was great! As you can see, we couldn't get Hannah to smile, but we took lots of pictures anyway.

Tylenol Poster Child

Seriously! My child should be the poster child for Tylenol as she practically has been living on the stuff! Just got back from the doctors - yet again - to find that Hannah has an ear infection. Both ears this time! Poor little pumpkin! It definitely explains why she wasn't much fun during her birthday parties this past weekend!

Swimming Lessons

Hannah had her first day of swimming lessons today. As it is a parent/child class - Jinoo joined baby girl in the pool. At first, she was pretty unsure of the whole thing but as soon as they started to sing and dance, she was in - all in! It also made a difference when her friend Reese showed up. Picture this: Jinoo & Hannah, Ryan & Reese chasing each other around in the pool all the while the rest of the class was busy learning a lesson. Next week is moms turn with the girls - maybe we'll learn something...

Cheese!

Hannah was so cute today - she was in her high chair eating Cherrios. Jinoo got the camera out to snap a few photos (I know - imagine that!) and as soon as the light went on the camera this is the face she made... She's a ham - just like her parents!

Medicine Girl...

Hannah as been taking three different meds: her antibiotics twice a day, her Zantac 3 times a day, and Tylenol every 4 hours. You'd think that we'd have to fight with her over and over - BUT she loves them. We just hand her the syringe and she sucks them down... funny.

the nest...

When my sister and I were little and not feeling well (and sometimes when we did), we could always count on our step-mom to make us a nest that would make us feel so much better. Pam would put a big blanket in the corner of the couch, we would sit ourselves into the corner w/ anything that we needed to make us feel better - a doll, snacks, books, and a good movie in the TV. And amazingly enough, it worked wonders. We would immediately feel better just being wrapped up in our little corner surrounded by our 'stuff'.

As the last couple of weeks have been a little rough. Hannah has been really sick (for the first time). She has battled a bad cold, then never-ending fever/diarrhea, then ear infection, now we're on to snot nose w/ a side of cough. Unfortunately, I'm experiencing the same thing right now - snuff, snuff, cough, cough!!

So, in remembering something that made me feel better as a child; I pulled out a big sheet (she's too hot for a blanket), put her in the corner of the couch surrounded by Bunny, a snack-trap full of fishies, a sippie w/ water, and put The Little Mermaid on the TV. And as I wrapping her all up with all her stuff - she gave me the sweetest smile. The smile reminded me of how I felt when Pam would tuck me into my nest. It made my heart smile and now know what Pam must have felt as she tucked us in and we smiled at her.

It's a bit cold, but sunny...

So we headed to the zoo. They have a new baby gorilla and she is SO CUTE! I pretend that we're going for Hannah, but I really wanted to see the baby gorilla!!! I could have watched her for hours - too cute! I wanted to take her home! She is four months old, but still so small.

Everyone had a great time, Hannah fell asleep 1/2 way through the trip but the other girls had the boys working hard. The first half of the trip Hannah wanted Kiki (Katie) to carry her. There we were - the older girls on the shoulders of the boys, Hannah in Katie's arms, and three empty strollers.
